It all started when a little girl said she wanted a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever…
Nearly 20 years ago Lilly, GCH Seastar’s Northern Lilly, joined the Smith family and ignited our love for Tollers. It wasn’t long until Jasmine, CH Seastar’s Northern Jasmine, joined the family and together with Lilly, served as our foundation of Tollers under the Seastar Northern name.
Northern Seafog Kennels pays homage to Seastar and Cedar Fog Kennels extending the legacy of Lilly and Jasmine as we continue the selective breeding of Tollers to unleash their greatest potential.

Debbie's deep-rooted love for animals began during her upbringing on a dairy farm in Massachusetts. Even at a young age, her passion for animals was evident as she actively participated in dairy and equine 4-H programs. As she transitioned into adulthood, Debbie's dedication to animals led her to own her own stable, where she trained standardbred racehorses.
After starting a family, Debbie continued to share her love for animals by serving as a canine 4-H leader for an impressive seven years. In this role, she mentored and inspired young enthusiasts, nurturing their passion for dogs and fostering a genuine love for the sport. Together with her daughters, Debbie embarked on a journey of competing in AKC events starting in 2007.
As an experienced breeder, Debbie has successfully bred and whelped over 15 litters. Her expertise and commitment to breeding have earned her recognition from the AKC for numerous achievements.

Kaila, the oldest of Debbie's daughters, has always had a deep love for dogs. As a youth, Kaila was an active member in canine 4-H with her Cocker Spaniel, Sweetie. Kaila held youth leadership positions at both her local 4-H club level and a state level and served a teen advisory board member.
Kaila's introduction to the world of AKC confirmation began when she handled Magic, CH Seastar's Magic Moment. Kaila and Magic formed an exceptional team, excelling in breed competitions, achieving numerous group placements, winning Best of Breed at the National Dog Show, and even receiving an invitation to Westminster.
As a young adult, Kaila moved to Okinawa, Japan, where she continued her passion for animals by volunteering with a local animal resue society, the Okinawan-American Animal Resue Society. Kaila served in various positions and was elected as the President of the society. During her three year stay in Japan, Kaila fostered over 20 animals .
Upon returning to the United States, Kaila joyfully welcomed Comet, the grandson of Jasmine, CH Seastar's Northern Jasmine, into her family. From the first day he entered the ring until today, Comet has always been owner-handled by Kaila.
With three young daughters who have already immersed themselves in the world of AKC conformation, showing in Peewee classes, Kaila eagerly looks forward to nurturing their shared passion for Tollers and dog showing in the years to come.
